iCandy.ie are delighted to announce the arrival of Jewellery designer, Carol Shaw’s collection to our site…

Tucked away in the lovely little suburb of Rathfarnham is a fabulous Aladdin’s den of jewels and pearls. After studding Art, and working in the Design industry for a number of years, Carol began working from home designing and handcrafting bespoke Jewellery. Designs range from contemporary necklaces, bracelets and earrings to traditional bridal and custom-made pieces.

All jewellery is designed and hand-made by Carol. Each piece is unique and made using only the finest Swarovski crystals, fresh water and Swarovski pearls, Czech glass and other personally selected stones, beads and silver findings. No two pieces are the same and keeping up current colours and fashion trends are key to her designs.

Bridal Jewellery is a speciality, and Carol loves to design and make beautiful jewellery and hair accessories for the bride, mother of the bride, bridesmaid and flower girl.
She also will work in consultation to design one-off pieces for any occasion ensuring you look stunning for that special occasion. Consultations are free and on an appointment basis only.

EssenC Designs is a knitwear design label based in Co. Cavan, near the towns of Bailieborough and Virginia. Sinead Clarke is the master mind behind the beautiful creations. This is where the name EssenC comes from as its pronounced "S and C", which is inspired by the initials in Sinead’s name. Based in a studio in Cavan since January 2008, Sinead has a stunning collection of handbags, hats, scarves, ponchos, wraps, shawls, dresses coats & jackets. We are delighted to announce our first fashion designer to the site, Sheila Considine, who has her own shop and studio in Lower Georges Street, Dun Laoghaire, Dublin. Sheila has been creating beautiful designs for the last number of years and has been very successful throughout Ireland.

As Deirdre McQuillen wrote when she met Sheila ‘’ Passionate about fabric and fashion design from childhood, this multi-tasker is a perfectionist about detail and, although her collections are small, they are made from quality materials and carefully structured to flatter Irish figures.’’ Sheila says "The problem with a lot of mass-produced clothes on the high street is that they're made for perfect-figure models and mannequins, not real people"

‘’Sheila’s current collection is typical of her minimalist style and classic mix of plain linens from Irish companies, such as Ulster Weavers, John England and Emblem Weavers, and patterned fabrics, the latter mostly Liberty jersey and cotton prints with the occasional designer finds from Paris.’’

Constance Harris wrote: ‘’ Sheila is a bit of a fashion boffin. She designs very much with the customer in mind, but she is doing it for the love of it. Elena Brennan is a jewellery Designer based in Cavan. Not only is she an estabilshed and recognised jewellery designer, she is also a Master Pattern Maker, Wax Modeller, Jeweller, Sculptor and Painter.

After studying at the University of Ulster at Belfast, She completed a postgraduate in jewellery techniques and design at the Sir John Cass College in London. Since graduating, she has worked on a wide variety of projects for both companies and private bespoke commissions over a career of almost twenty years.

Her most successful venture has been "The Children of Lir" collection, which sold tremendously well, both here and in America. Elena is currently working on three collections: The Gossamer collection, consisting of very fine lace like pieces with stones, also a new Children of Lir collection and an as yet untitled collection based on shifting sands of the seashore.

Most of the Children of Lir pieces on iCandy.ie are not available in any shops or Jewellers yet. Elena also offers a fantastic service where she will do commissioned pieces for special occasions such as wedding rings, engagement rings, or presents for special birthdays.We approached Elena through a friend who had a beautiful necklace commissioned one of a kind from her, she was so thrilled.

FASHION BREAK THROUGH (April 25 – May 1 2009)

So the country’s in a mess. What are we going to do about it? It seems to us that the best way to cope is to create – and collaborate.

FASHION BREAK THROUGH is all about realising that Ireland’s future lies in forging strong new communities of ideas; of talent and support. This – the very first in a biannual series of events to showcase some of the best emerging names in contemporary Irish fashion design – represents an exciting moment in the development of the new creative economy.

An initiative of the TADCOI (The Artisans and Designers Community of Interest), FASHION BREAK THROUGH aims to create a unique platform for fresh design expertise via a lively event that accentuates all that’s exceptional in the art of Irish fashion.

Founder Lisa Shawgi – who is herself making waves as an original and innovative knitwear designer – says that the purpose of the project is to keep young designers connected, to provide a high profile showcase for some outstanding work and to promote sustainable Irish fashion.

Celebrations kick off on April 25 with a POP-UP BOUTIQUE opening on the ground floor of FILM BASE, Temple Bar, and continuing there from April 27 to May 1. (Mon – Fri 9am to 5.30pm)

A TRADE SHOW will run concurrently in the LOFT at Powerscourt from April 28 to 30 – with a VIP launch lunch on April 30 at 1pm.
FASHION BREAK THROUGH culminates in a style extravaganza on April 28 in the uber-cool setting of D-Light studios, 46 North Great Clarence Street.

Doors open at 7pm on this extraordinary space that was a car showroom in a past life and is now home to the super-stylish endeavours of fashion photographer Agata Stoinska. The night kicks off with a drinks reception and then at 8 begins the catwalk show featuring a plethora of refreshing, groundbreaking designers including Lisa Shawgi, Lil’c Couture, Sophie Rieu and Heather Finn. With Angela Scanlon and Therese McKenna producing, stunning modelling talent from Bscene The Agency and LA Make Up Academy, some top Dublin DJ action and an unbeatable venue, this promises to be quite a night.

iCandy.ie is an Irish based business set up in 2008 in Dublin by 3 Irish cailíní who love fashion. We felt there was a niche in the market for online marketing for the Irish boutiques. Born out of this necessity and for the sake of our 4 inch heels and poor feet we could no longer take the blisters, running between puddles and queues for the taxi rank! Enough was enough.
